Azure availability zones are designed to help you achieve resiliency and reliability for your business-critical workloads. The network module of NMM portal helps you add public IPs and NAT gateways in multiple availability zones. Through this article, let us understand how to go about this.
Log into NMM portal and click "Manage" option on an existing account:
From the main menu on your account's page, select "Network->Public IP". You will be able to view a list of public IPs under this page. Click "Add Public IP" button as shown below:
You need to fill in the details like name, resource group, region, SKU, allocation, availability zone, DNS name label, server, network interface, IP configuration and click "OK" button as shown below:
By default, the availability zones drop-down is disabled. Once you select a region (say Australia East), you will be able to select the corresponding availability zones (Zone 1, Zone 2 and so on) as shown below:
You can also associate Public IP Addresses with Virtual Machines according to their availability zones. Once you add a public IP (say ABC-Pip), you will be able to see it under Public IP page. Click "Associate" button on it:
Select the server, network interface and IP configuration from the respective drop-downs as shown below and click "OK" button:
Similarly, you can select availability zones for your NAT gateway. From the main menu on your account's page, select "Network->NAT Gateway". You will be able to view a list of NAT gateways under this page. Click "Add NAT Gateway" button as shown below:
Enter details like name, resource group, region, VNET, subnets, idle timeout, availability zones, public IP address and click "OK" button as shown below. You can either create a new public IP or associate an existing public IP with your NAT gateway.
By default, the availability zones drop-down is disabled. Once you select a region (say Brazil South), you will be able to select the corresponding availability zones (Zone 1, Zone 2, and so on) as shown below:
