FSLogix profiles are a central feature of AVD desktops. FSLogix Cloud Cache adds a layer of reliability & resiliency to the critical FSLogix profiles component of AVD.
Cloud Cache allows you to specify multiple profile storage locations. Enabling Cloud Cache on a host pool will asynchronously replicate the FSLogix profiles and make the profiles available in multiple storage locations at the same time. The VHD data is temporarily cached on session host VM and then asynchronously written to one or more locations specified. For example, one location could be a Azure Files share, while another location a file server share. If the first location fails for some reason, the session host with FSLogix cloud cache configuration will automatically failover to use the second location, and so on. You can specify up to four locations.
There are two ways to enable Cloud Cache -
FSLogix profile storage setting
Login to an account and navigate to Settings > Integrations. Locate the tile FSLogix Profiles storage. Typically you will have one profile in place already. Edit the profile or add a new one.
Check the box Use Cloud Cache to enable Cloud Cache. You will notice the FSLogix Profile Path will now say CCDLocation instead of VHDLocation. You can enter up to four paths now. The paths are numbered to indicate the order in which they will failover. You can drag-n-drop to change the order of the paths. Click OK to save your changes.
Host pool properties
You can enable Cloud Cache on session hosts in a specific host pool by selecting Use Cloud Cache for the FSLogix profile for the host pool. Login to an account and navigate to AVD > Host Pools. Locate the Host pool you want to work on and from the action menu select Properties. On the Properties pop-up, select the FSLogix tab.
Make sure USE FSLOGIX PROFILES is set to ON. From the profiles dropdown, select Custom. Check the box Use Cloud Cache to enable Cloud Cache. The FSLogix Profile Path will now say CCDLocation instead of VHDLocation. You can enter up to four paths now. The paths are numbered to indicate the order in which they will failover. You can drag-n-drop to change the order of the paths. Click Save & close to save your changes.
