After installing NMM, you must create an account to setup and run a virtual desktop based IT environment for your customer. Generally, this will be a customer account, though you can also connect to and manage your own Azure tenant. This KB walks you through the process of creating a cloud PC based virtual desktop IT environment in Azure. For setting up an Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) based account, please see this KB article.
The following prerequisites are required in order to add an account:
- Azure AD login to the customer's tenant, with Global Administrator and subscription Owner roles
- You must use existing Active Directory. You will need the domain name and an admin username/password
Start by navigating to the Accounts screen. Click Add account
The process to add an account is divided into three steps.
Step 1: Link to customer's Azure AD Tenant
On the next screen, click the Connect button and supply credentials to the customer's Azure tenant.
After authenticating, check the box to "Consent on behalf of your organization" after reviewing the required permissions. Then click Accept.
Account name: Your customer's name. This name will appear in NMM on the Accounts screen.
Desktop deployment model: Select MEM-managed cloud PC.
Select subscription: Choose the subscription that has (or will have) the resources you want to manage. An NMM account is linked to a single subscription.
Active Directory: You must choose "Use existing Active Directory" as that is the only model supported by cloud PC.
Click Save & next to proceed. You will notice a task has been initiated. A service principal is created in the Azure tenant for NMM to perform tasks on your behalf via API.
Step 2: Networking
Next select the Azure region, resource group and network where you want cloud PC resources to reside. You will be able to add additional networks and resource groups once you have finished adding the account.
Click Save & next to proceed. You will notice a task has been initiated. NMM will check the resource group & network and link to both, which essentially makes NMM aware of resources in the resource group and network.
Step 3: Active Directory
Since you are connecting to an existing Active Directory, you must supply an admin username/password.
Click Save & done to proceed. NMM will securely save the credentials to AD-join cloud PCs as and when you assign cloud PCs to users.
That completes the setup process. The newly minted account will be listed on the Accounts screen. To begin managing the new account, click the Manage button to the right of the account.
