Managing Azure file shares in NMM
In this section let us explore various options to manage Azure file shares in NMM:
- Navigate to Azure File shares
- Add Azure Files share
- Link Azure Files shares
- Manage Azure file shares
- File handles
- Copy UNC path
- Unlink Azure Files shares
- View status of Azure Files tasks
Navigate to Azure Files shares
Login to NMM portal and from the main menu select "Azure Files shares" option:
Add Azure files shares
Scroll down and click "Add Azure Files" button at the bottom right corner:
Provide the following details:
- Storage account name: Enter storage account name
- Location: Enter the region
- Performance: Enter type of performance
- File Share name: Enter the file share name
- Provisioned capacity (GiB): Enter provisioned capacity in GiB
- Permissions (SMB share contributors): Enter user or group name
- Add users/groups from host pools: Select users/groups from host pools
- Join to AD: This option is checked by default
- Temporary VM Settings: To join Azure files to AD, we need to create a temporary VM to perform various operations
- Name prefix: Enter name of temporary VM
- Network: Select subnet name from drop-down
- Desktop Image: Select desktop image from drop-down
- VM size: Choose VM size from the drop-down
- OS disk: Choose OS disk size from the drop-down
- Resource Group: Choose resource group from drop-down
- Click "OK" button to create an Azure file share.
- Note: Creating an Azure file share requires some time. You can monitor the progress under "Tasks" section
Link Azure Files shares
On "Azure files shares" page, click "Link Azure Files" button to manage files via NMM portal:
Provide the following details:
- Storage account: Select an existing storage account from the drop-down
- File share: Select an existing Azure file share from drop-down
- Click "OK" button to save.
Manage Azure Files
Now let us explore few other options under Azure files shares:
Select a file name and click "Manage" drop-down. You will be able to see more options:
Select an existing Azure file share and click "Manage" option next to it:
You can change only the following items:
- Provisioned capacity (GiB): Enter provisioned capacity in GiB
- Permissions (SMB share contributors): Enter user or group name
- Add users/groups from host pools: Select users/groups from host pools
Click "OK" button once done
File handles
Select a file name and click "Manage" drop-down. You will be able to see more options:
Select "File handles" option under "Manage" drop-down to close any open file handles.
Click "Close file" button to confirm that you want to close an Azure files share.
Copy UNC path
Select a file name and click "Manage" drop-down. You will be able to see more options:
Select "Copy UNC path" option under "Manage" drop-down to copy the file share path.
Unlink Azure Files shares
Select a file name and click "Manage" drop-down. You will be able to see more options:
Select "Unlink" option under "Manage" drop-down to unlink existing Azure file shares from the NMM portal:
Click "OK" button to confirm that you want to unlink Azure files share.
View status of Azure Files tasks
You can view the status of Azure Files tasks under "Azure Files tasks" section. You can search tasks by any text in the tasks or filter tasks by status (ALL STATUSES, PENDING, IN PROGRESS, COMPLETE, ERROR and CANCELLED). You can refresh tasks and also download them in JSON format:
