Deploy Nerdio Manager from custom template

Applies to: Nerdio Manager for MSP (NMM)

Nerdio Manager for MSP is installed and billed through the Azure marketplace. The installation process generally takes five to 10 minutes, and can be broken down in to three phases:

  1. Install NMM application from Marketplace listing
  2. Continue installation with an Azure CloudShell script
  3. Register your install with our licensing server

  • Log in to Azure portal as Global Admin and Subscription Owner

Phase I - Install from Marketplace

To begin the installation process, login to Azure portal and search for "Template", and select the "Deploy a custom template" option to start the installation process.

Important: you must be logged in to Azure portal as a Global Admin and Subscription Owner of Azure subscription where you will install NMM.

Click Build your own template in the editor.

Next, click Load file.

Provide this URL when prompted and continue.

You will now see the template editor box has loaded information. Click Save button.

On the next screen, you'll select the subscription and resource group for the application. The "Deployment scope" section determines the resource group that the billing object will reside in. We recommend creating a new resource group for this.

The "Parameters" section determines the resource group that will contain the resources created for the NMM application, such as the app service, SQL Server instance, etc. Select the appropriate region. We recommend leaving the rest of the default entries in place.

Click Next: Review + create button to proceed to next screen. Agree to the terms and conditions, and click Create. The deployment of the Azure resources will begin, and will take 3-5 minutes.

Phase I is now complete.

Phase II - Run Azure CloudShell script

Once the deployment is finished, find the app service by searching for "App Services" or by opening the Resource Group created by NMM. The app service will be called "web-admin-portal-<xxxxx>"

Click on the app service, find the URL associated with the app service and open it in a browser tab.

The web page shows a PowerShell command, which you will copy and then paste into an Azure Cloud Shell session. First copy the command and then click the "Launch Azure Cloud Shell" button.

If needed, select PowerShell (not Bash) and create a storage account for the shell history.

Paste the PowerShell command and hit enter to run it.

The script will take about five minutes to install and configure the NMM application on the app service. Phase II is now done.

Phase III - Register your install

When the script has finished, return to the app service URL and reload the page. Consent to allow the app the required permissions.

Important: Check the box "Consent on behalf of your organization"

Provide your registration details and register your NMM install.

You will now see the main NMM interface:

NMM installation is now complete! From here generally the next step is to add an account that you will manage via NMM.
