How do I fix distorted, purple, or various artifacts on my screen?


Applies to: Nerdio for Azure (NFA) users. 


This issue is due to a known active bug in Windows 10 related to the Windows Remote Desktop application and hardware accelerated decoding. If you are experiencing distorted, purple or visual artifacts (such as the one shown below) on your screen, during an NFA session, please follow the steps mentioned under the "Resolution" section in this article:

Resolution

This known issue stems from hardware accelerated decoding for Remote Desktop Connections on a local device. This setting can be disabled on the local desktop by following the steps given below:

  1. From the run command open gpedit.msc
  2. Navigate to Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Remote Desktop Services -> Remote Desktop Connection Client 
  3. Double click the below setting located on the right-hand side: Do not allow hardware accelerated decoding
  4. Set Do not allow hardware accelerated decoding to ENABLED as shown in the screenshot below:
