How do I pin a program to the taskbar?

If you are wanting programs such as Outlook, Word, PowerPoint to be readily available, you can pin the program to the Windows taskbar:

  1. Find the program in the Start menu
  2. Right-click on the program and select option "Pin to taskbar"

Server based or network programs

Programs such as Outlook or Word are local programs. They are installed on your Nerdio desktop. There's a different process if you have a network program. Windows does not allow network programs to be pinned to the taskbar. So, here's a workaround our superhero Nerdios have found:

  1. Pin notepad to the taskbar (see steps above)
  2. Right-click it and go to properties
  3. Now you will want to either open the desktop shortcut PROPERTIES for the network program OR go to the program in Start and do the same thing
  4. Copy and paste the target path from the network program into the target location on the notepad properties
  5. Then you will want to locate the icon picture for the network program under the properties for that program
    1. Once you do this, you can take that path and paste it into the Change Icon option for the notepad properties
  6. Change the name of the notepad taskbar shortcut to the name of the network program, apply the changes
  7. Close everything
  8. Test the new taskbar Shortcut
